Lexus has confirmed its refreshed all-electric RZ SUV is now starting to land in dealerships, bringing one of the brand’s biggest tech swings yet: steer-by-wire paired with a yoke-style steering wheel.
The updated RZ range is headlined by the new RZ 550e F Sport, while the RZ 500e Dynamic sits beneath it. Lexus says the SUV has already made its first public outing at the ASB Classic, before vehicles begin arriving across showrooms.
Hands off the round wheel, please
Steer-by-wire ditches the traditional mechanical link between steering wheel and front wheels, instead using electronic control to tailor steering response to speed and conditions. On the RZ 550e F Sport it’s standard; on the RZ 500e Dynamic it’s optional.
The yoke is the other headline act. Lexus claims drivers can reach full steering lock without crossing their arms, which should make tight manoeuvres simpler, while also improving high-speed stability and precision. The compact shape is also pitched as a packaging win, freeing up space for better visibility and easier entry and exit.
“The new RZ is a big step forward for Lexus electrification,” says Andrew Davis, Vice President of Lexus New Zealand. “It delivers more power, improved range and faster charging, while introducing steering technology that genuinely changes how the vehicle feels to drive.”
More punch, plus faster AC charging
Outputs rise across the board. The RZ 550e F Sport delivers a maximum system output of 300kW, while the RZ 500e Dynamic makes 280kW, an increase of 50 kW.
Both models get a revised battery-electric system, including a higher-capacity battery, a 22kW onboard AC charger, and upgraded battery thermal management aimed at more consistent charging across a wider range of conditions.
F Sport gets the toys

The 550e leans harder into the sporty brief with suspension tuning, aerodynamic detailing and unique design touches. It also introduces Lexus’ Interactive Manual Drive, letting drivers “shift” through an eight-speed virtual setup via paddle shifters.
Pricing (RSP) is set at $109,900 for the RZ 500e Dynamic, $119,900 for the RZ 500e Dynamic with steer-by-wire, and $134,900 for the RZ 550e F Sport.
