AMG’s GT Track Sport concept begins high-speed testing ahead of debut.

AMG’s GT Track Sport concept begins high-speed testing ahead of debut.

  • The Concept AMG GT Track Sport has begun testing on racetracks following its July reveal.
  • It features an AMG V8 powertrain, optimised weight balance and advanced aerodynamics.
  • Mercedes-AMG is validating all systems under race conditions to meet the brand’s performance standards.

Mercedes-AMG has unleashed its latest experiment in extreme performance, the Concept GT Track Sport, onto the proving grounds.

The prototype, revealed after final tweaks in Affalterbach in late July, has now entered a rigorous testing phase on racetracks and closed test facilities, where it’s already clocking its first high-intensity kilometres.

Testing the limits... literally

Dressed in yellow-and-red camouflage, the Track Sport takes the GT family’s two-door formula and turns the dial past eleven. AMG says this isn’t just a design study but a “vision with a promise”, an exploration of the brand’s upper limits of dynamics and engineering.

Under the bold skin lies AMG’s trademark V8 drive technology, combined with a finely tuned weight balance and a reworked aerodynamic package.

Every component, from the lightweight construction to the chassis setup, is being validated under “the toughest conditions” to ensure it meets the brand’s uncompromising standards.

A vision built on velocity

Michael Schiebe, Chairman of Mercedes-AMG GmbH and Head of Business Units Mercedes-Benz G-Class & Mercedes-Maybach, says the concept pushes the brand’s philosophy to its edge:

“With the Concept GT Track Sport, we are once again exploring the limits of what is possible. We have a world-class team working on this concept with incomparable AMG spirit. It takes us to the physical and driving dynamics limit. We have a vision and make a promise: The future will be extreme.”

That future will likely remain track-focused for now with no road homologation plans have been disclosed yet, but the Track Sport hints at the next evolution in AMG’s high-performance DNA.

What comes next for AMG’s GT family?

If the prototype’s early laps are any indication, expect the next GT offspring to be sharper, lighter and far more single-minded than its touring-oriented siblings.

The Track Sport might never see public roads, but it’s laying down the blueprint for AMG’s future performance strategy, one that looks set to chase the physical limits with trademark German precision and a grin-inducing dose of madness.
