You’ve heard “MX-5 is always the answer” - but few would’ve guessed the question was “What should I take off-roading?”
That’s exactly the brief for Bajayata, a wild 1994 Mazda MX-5 NA currently listed on enthusiast auction site Cars & Bids.
MX-5 meets the mountains (and mud)
Originally an M Edition finished in Montego Blue Mica, this once-dainty roadster now rides high on a Paco Motorsports Offroadster kit.
Ground clearance? More than double some SUVs. Grip? Supplied by chunky 31-inch BF Goodrich tyres wrapped around a set of 15-inch wheels - with a full-size spare bolted to a Sqiirl Mods luggage rack, naturally.
Each corner features custom-valved AFCO Racing coilovers, working beneath TIG-welded fender flares.
For when things get rocky (literally), Zerek Fabrication bash bars and underbody skid plates take the hits, while a Track Dog Racing diagonal roll bar adds peace of mind in the cabin.
Turbocharged trailblazer
The stock 1.8-litre engine would’ve struggled with the added heft, so the owner turned to Flyin’ Miata for a turbocharger kit and billet steel flywheel. It’s now paired with a six-speed manual borrowed from a 2004 MX-5 - a welcome upgrade from the original five-speed’s limitations.
MX-5 inside. Sort of.
In contrast to the rugged exterior, the cabin retains its tan leather sports seats and factory carpet. No stripped-out spartan vibes here - just classic comfort for those post-trail coffee runs.
Whether it’s your kind of madness or not, this lifted Miata follows a growing off-road sportscar trend. Think Porsche 911 Dakar or Lamborghini Sterrato - just with fewer zeros on the price tag.
Would you take it on a gravel bash or just to your next Cars and Coffee? Either way, Bajayata is guaranteed to raise eyebrows and maybe even a few ruts.
