  • Colour-shifting paint and jazz-themed interior define the design.

Lexus has taken an unusual route with its latest creation, translating jazz into sheet metal.

The brand has unveiled a one-off version of its RZ electric SUV, dubbed the Blue in Green Edition, created in collaboration with artist Laufey to mark 100 years of Miles Davis.

Rather than focusing on performance upgrades or new tech, this project leans heavily into design and emotion, positioning the car as a physical interpretation of Davis’ iconic track Blue in Green.

Design that shifts with the light

The standout feature is the paint.

The RZ wears a custom finish that transitions between deep blue and green depending on lighting conditions, mirroring the tone and atmosphere of the music that inspired it.

Subtle nods to Miles Davis run throughout. Brass accents referencing his trumpet appear on the brake calipers and interior details, while the cabin combines burgundy velvet and aged leather to evoke a classic instrument case.

Laufey’s personal touch is woven in as well. Her signature appears as an illuminated “L” badge at the front, while lyrics from her reinterpretation of the song are integrated into the car itself.

Perhaps the most playful detail comes when the car is started: the opening notes of Blue in Green play automatically, turning even a routine interaction into part of the experience.

The vehicle was revealed during a global livestream event, where Laufey also debuted her reworked version of the track, released as an Amazon Music exclusive.

Lexus frames the project as an exploration of how design, technology and culture can intersect, particularly as the brand continues to expand its electrified lineup.

There’s no suggestion this one-off will lead directly to a production model, but that’s not really the point.

Instead, the Blue in Green Edition RZ sits somewhere between concept car and art piece, reminding us that as vehicles become quieter and more digital, brands are looking for new ways to make them feel something.

And in this case, that “something” just happens to be jazz.
