The British Grand Prix at Silverstone promises more than just racing action this weekend, as Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team unveils a multi-layered celebration of Formula One’s 75th anniversary.

Blending nostalgia, cutting-edge tech and a glimpse of what’s next, the team is pulling out all the stops to honour its storied history and ambitious future.

A retro nod: Moss, W196 and tartan touches

Mercedes is diving deep into its heritage, with the legendary Mercedes-Benz W196 taking centre stage. The car - winner of nine out of twelve races during its 1950s heyday - will be on display at the team’s hospitality suite, proudly showcasing its tartan seat pattern.

That same design inspires a fresh Silver Arrows fanwear line, courtesy of a new adidas collaboration. George Russell recently took the W196 for a spin at Aintree, retracing the tyre marks of Sir Stirling Moss, who 70 years ago became the first Briton to win his home Grand Prix.

The present: hypercar power meets the grid

The team isn’t just reminiscing but flexing modern muscle, too. Fans at Silverstone can feast their eyes on the Mercedes-AMG One hypercar, a roadgoing marvel that packs genuine F1 powertrain tech.

Developed with the brand's High Performance Powertrains outfit, it’s a reminder that F1 know-how doesn’t just stay in the paddock.

The future is bright (and very, very orange)

Mercedes-Benz AMG GT XX

Looking ahead, the Mercedes Concept AMG GT XX is set to make an eye-catching appearance. The striking prototype, painted in sunset beam orange, delivers a jaw-dropping 1000kW of peak output thanks to its trio of axial flux motors.

Capable of topping 360km/h, it edges close to the sport’s all-time speed records. The car also signals the future of AMG’s electric ambitions, with its advanced high-voltage battery tech born from both Formula One and AMG One experience.

As Markus Schafer puts it, the GT XX represents the combined genius of Mercedes’ global R&D network, “providing an insight into pioneering drivetrain technology and the future of performance.”

All in all, Silverstone looks set for a grand prix that celebrates not just the thrill of racing - but where it’s come from and where it’s going next.
