  • New Subaru Crosstrek 2.0L AWD is priced from $43,990 and targets fleet and private buyers.
  • It features a 2.0-litre Boxer petrol engine, Symmetrical AWD and 220mm ground clearance.
  • Features include EyeSight Driver Assist, an 11.6-inch touchscreen and wireless smartphone connectivity.

Subaru’s Crosstrek lineup just got a little bigger and sharper on price with the arrival of the new 2.0L AWD petrol variant.

Priced from $43,990, this fresh face in the compact SUV stable aims squarely at fleet and corporate buyers, but there’s plenty here to tick boxes for adventurers, couples and anyone eyeing a rugged runabout.

A Crosstrek for work and play

At the heart of the Crosstrek 2.0L is Subaru’s well-loved 2.0-litre horizontally opposed Boxer four-cylinder petrol engine, paired to a Lineartronic CVT with eight-speed manual mode. Symmetrical all-wheel drive and a generous 220mm of ground clearance mean this compact SUV can confidently tackle everything from city commutes to gravel backroads.

Subaru of New Zealand hasn’t disclosed exact power figures for this specific variant yet, but given its siblings, expect outputs in the ballpark of 115kW, or more than enough to haul weekend gear or handle tricky work sites.

Tech-savvy and safety-first

Inside, the Crosstrek 2.0L keeps pace with modern expectations. There’s an 11.6-inch centre touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus wireless phone charging to cut down on cable chaos.

Safety is a clear priority: EyeSight Driver Assist, Vision Assist, a Driver Monitoring System and X-Mode all come standard. No surprise, then, that it carries a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.

Kym Mellow, General Manager of Inchcape NZ (Subaru’s distributor), summed up the appeal: “We envision this variant appealing to our fleet customers, who want to look after their staff with a safe, All-Wheel Drive SUV that’s going to get them where they need to be for work during the week and also able to access any adventure destinations they have planned for the weekend.”

A legacy of small SUV smarts

Subaru fans will note that the Crosstrek picks up where the XV left off, taking the DNA of the original small SUV launched in 2012 and evolving it with the spirit of innovation and versatility that defined the XV nameplate.

Now with bolder styling, black roof rails and a mix of bold paint options, the Crosstrek 2.0L blends familiar practicality with a fresh attitude.

Whether it’s fleet buyers crunching numbers or families seeking one vehicle for weekday chores and weekend escapes, Subaru’s latest Crosstrek variant promises to be a contender worth a closer look.
