Toyota has taken its compact crossover in a bold new direction with the unveiling of the Corolla Cross Hybrid Nasu Edition at the SEMA Show in the United States. While still a concept, Toyota says the build showcases how the Corolla Cross platform could be adapted for off-road and recreational use.
Built by Toyota’s Service Parts and Accessories Development (SPAD) team, the Nasu Edition is named after Mt. Nasu in Japan, a popular hiking destination. The concept features a raised suspension, Toyo Open Country A/T III all-terrain tyres, and a custom body kit designed to improve ground clearance and durability on unsealed roads.

Under the bonnet, the Nasu Edition retains the standard 2.0-litre hybrid powertrain, combining a petrol engine with three electric motors to produce 146kW. Power is delivered through an all-wheel-drive system, making it suitable for gravel tracks and light off-roading.
The exterior includes practical upgrades such as rock sliders, a cargo basket, and an articulating roof rack. A purple wrap pays homage to the Japanese word “nasu,” which also means “eggplant.”

Inside, the concept features a drawer system, a fridge on a sliding tray, and "enhanced lighting" that includes modified Toyota lightbars and fog lamps to illuminate the drive path, while custom illuminated door sills, puddle lamps, and cargo sills light up the interior and camp site.
A downhill mountain bike mounted on the roof rack connects the build to outdoor sports culture, with Toyota noting it’s a tribute to junior world champion Asa Vermette.
"The Corolla Cross is one of the most versatile vehicles in our lineup, and the Nasu Edition shows how much further it can go,” said Steve Park, senior product planner, Toyota and Lexus Vehicle Accessories.

"While the inspiration for this build is the adventurous spirit of Mt. Nasu in Japan, ‘nasu’ as a verb in Japanese also means ‘to achieve.’ We hope this build inspires others to build, to experience, and to achieve."
Toyota is displaying more than two dozen concept vehicles at SEMA under the theme “Powered by Possibility,” showcasing innovation across hybrid, plug-in hybrid, battery electric, and hydrogen fuel cell technologies.
