Further interior updates include an electronically operated parking brake, with the switch positioned between the instrument cluster and infotainment system. For automatic models, the gear selector has been moved to the steering column.

Connectivity has also been upgraded with USB-C ports and includes an inductive wireless charging option for smartphones.

“This upgrade brings the latest digital technology that VW is renowned for, ensuring a more intuitive driving experience for its commercial operators,” says Kevin Richards, general manager of VW Commercial Vehicles NZ.

Crafter still comes in a wide range of body types: panel van, drop side, cab chassis and heavy-duty
solutions.

Crafter also continues to offer front-wheel, rear-wheel, and 4Motion all-wheel drive options. Transmission choices include a 6-speed manual and an 8-speed automatic specifically designed for RWD models. Its 4-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines deliver 103kW, 120kW or 130kW.

Pricing begins at $91,000 including GST, plus on road costs, and includes 3 scheduled services.

Yet to be confirmed for NZ but just revealed in Europe (and scheduled to go on show at the Caravan Salon in Dusseldorf, August 27-September 7) is an upgraded version of the Crafter-based Grand California camper.

Aside from the new instrumentation, the interior features "Atami Bamboo" decor, with new finishes for the tabletop and work surfaces.

There's also an optional custom-fit thermal mat and revised blackout windows for the cab.
