- VW has delivered two million BEVs globally since launching its EV programme in 2013.
- The milestone car was an ID.3 built in Zwickau and handed over to its owner in Dresden.
- ID.4 is the brand’s best-performing EV so far, followed by the ID.3.
Volkswagen has delivered its two millionth all-electric vehicle, marking a significant milestone in the brand’s long-running push toward electrification. The anniversary car, an ID.3 built at the Zwickau plant, was handed over to its new owner at Volkswagen’s Transparent Factory in Dresden.
The moment caps more than a decade of electric vehicle development for the German manufacturer, which began its modern EV journey with the e-up! in 2013 and has since expanded its lineup with the ID. family of battery-electric models.
ID. trio leading the charge

Three key models have driven the bulk of Volkswagen’s electric growth: the ID.3 hatchback, the ID.4 SUV and the ID.7 large sedan.
The ID.3 alone accounts for around 628,000 deliveries and was the first model built on Volkswagen’s modular electric drive matrix (MEB) platform, effectively launching the brand’s modern EV era when it arrived in 2020.
The ID.4 has been the biggest contributor so far, with approximately 901,000 units delivered globally. The SUV has helped Volkswagen expand its footprint in key markets including Europe, China and the United States.
Meanwhile the ID.7, introduced in 2023, represents the brand’s move into larger, longer-range electric vehicles, with both sedan and wagon versions aimed at customers seeking more space and efficiency for long-distance travel.
Dresden delivery marks milestone

Volkswagen chose its Transparent Factory in Dresden for the handover ceremony, where customer Kirsten Vormbrock received the milestone ID.3 alongside her wife Tina. The facility has increasingly shifted its focus toward customer engagement and brand experience after production activity was phased out.
Last year alone, around 3500 vehicles were delivered to customers at the Dresden site, with more than 90 percent of those being either electric or hybrid models. That makes the Transparent Factory Volkswagen’s second-largest vehicle delivery centre in Germany, behind Autostadt in Wolfsburg.
Next step: smaller electric cars
Volkswagen says the next phase of its EV expansion will focus on more affordable models. The upcoming ID. Polo will be the first of four new electric cars arriving in the small and compact segments throughout 2026.
Martin Sander, Volkswagen board member for sales, marketing and after sales, said the two-million milestone underlines the brand’s momentum in the EV market.
“Two million all-electric vehicles provide clear evidence of the attractiveness and competitiveness of our all-electric portfolio,” he said.
With more compact EVs on the horizon and its ID. range continuing to expand, Volkswagen’s push toward an all-electric future is gathering pace, and the two-million mark suggests the transition is well underway.
