Volkswagen's all-new large SUV, MG Motor's first ever ute and Audi's sleek and sexy all-electric station wagon have all scored top safety marks following the latest round of ANCAP testing.
The Volkswagen Tayron (that launches here next week) has secured a five-star rating, showing high levels of occupant protection in the majority of crash tests, with full marks achieved for protection of the driver in the full-width and side impact tests, and child passengers in the frontal offset and side impact tests.

In its seven-seat variant, head-protecting airbags extend to the third row, but ANCAP points out that buyers should note that top-tether child restraint anchorages are not available for third row seating positions of seven-seat variants, and the installation of child seats in these positions is therefore not recommended.
Along with the Tayron, MG’s first entry into the dominant ute segment, the MGU9 has also achieved five-star safety across all four pillars of ANCAP’s assessment. This should come as no surprise, as its LDV Terron twin scored a five-star rating last month.

ANCAP says the MGU9 "further cements the trend of five-star results in the competitive dual-cab ute segment", and it is the seventh dual-cab ute to be assessed by ANCAP under its current (and tougher) rating criteria, with each of these models achieving five stars.
The Audi A6 e-tron also did extremely well, earning maximum points for protection of the driver, front passenger, and child passengers. These high scores contributed to overall scores of 92 percent for Adult Occupant Protection and 91 percent for Child Occupant Protection.
"These results further highlight the high levels of safety available to consumers across a variety of brands," said ANCAP Chief Executive Officer, Carla Hoorweg.
