First electric Jnrs await customers

First electric Jnrs await customers

  • Amalgam's new 1:18 Blower model joins its existing 1:8 recreation of Bentley's historic racing car.
  • The first 25 electric Blower Jnrs are complete, with Bentley's own example already delivered to Crewe.
  • The 85% scale Jnr produces 23kW and has a certified range of up to 120km.

Bentley's Blower has acquired another smaller sibling, this time one that will fit on a shelf.

Model maker Amalgam has added a 1:18 version of the famous racer to its range, as the first 25 electric Blower Jnrs reach completion.

Bentley brought the models together around the original 1929 Team Car No. 2, registered UU 5872. Alongside it sat the 85% scale Jnr and Amalgam's 1:8 and new 1:18 miniatures.

Small enough to drive

The completed Jnrs are being prepared for customer deliveries. Bentley's own example has already arrived in Crewe, joining its Heritage Collection, and the wider production programme runs to 349 cars.

Despite the vintage appearance, the Jnr uses electric power. Bentley now lists an output of 23kW, a top speed above 80km/h and a certified range of up to 120km.

Preparing the Jnr for road use has required homologation work on its headlights, indicators, brakes and electrical equipment. The scaled-down design also has a reversing camera. Bentley has not announced New Zealand availability or pricing.

Smaller still, down to the dirt

Amalgam's new 1:18 model brings the Blower's exposed mechanical detail to a more compact format. It joins the company's larger 1:8 version, first introduced in February 2020.

Owners of full-size Blower Continuation cars can commission either scale to match their own Bentley. Amalgam also makes a weathered 1:8 edition, limited to 30 examples.

The weathered model recreates UU 5872's appearance at the 1930 Le Mans race, including accumulated dirt and bent rear wings caused by tyre failures. The original was one of four Team Blowers.
