Caterham Cars has come over quite brilliantly retro at Monterey Car Week, with a pair of the luridly '80s liveried Seven Miami Special Edition - that was first unveiled earlier this year - on display at the prestigious event as part of the British carmaker's strategy to increase the brand's visibility and establish connections within the United States market.
The Miami Special Edition is a track-only vehicle based on the Seven R chassis and is limited to a global production of 12 units. Each car is hand-assembled at Caterham’s headquarters in the United Kingdom and is powered by a naturally aspirated 2.0-litre Ford Duratec engine that produces 157kW, hooked up to a five-speed manual gearbox.
While these are quite modest numbers, particularly by US standards, the Seven R weighs pretty much nothing (well, 560kg), so boasts a power-to-weight ratio of 280kW-per-tonne, a 0-60mph (96km/h) acceleration time of 3.8 seconds, and a top speed of 220km/h. Which is more then enough in something you can touch the road from the driver's seat in...
The exterior of the 12 vehicles is the undoubted highlight however, with each car finished in Aqua paint with a decal package in Vibrant Pink and White. It could simply not be any more "80s Miami" than that.
The rear of the car features the Miami script and a silhouette of the Miami International Autodrome circuit, just to drive the aesthetic firmly home, while interior details include Miami script embroidery on the headrests and an individually numbered plaque on the dashboard. Additionally, a plaque in the engine bay is engraved with the names and signatures of the two technicians who assembled the vehicle.

Attendees and prospective buyers will have the opportunity to view the Seven Miami Special Edition during Monterey Car week at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca, with the sale commencing 10:00am PDT, 13 August.
