Porsche has completed the final 982-generation 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport racing car at Zuffenhausen, but the last example did not head quietly into storage.
It first competed in the six-hour ADAC Ravenol Nurburgring Endurance Series race on 1 August, giving the mid-engined customer racer one final competitive outing before it joined Porsche's company collection.
One last race before retirement
The milestone applies specifically to the 982-generation racing car built at Zuffenhausen.
Its send-off livery makes the museum destination clear. Porsche says the design draws on the museum and its architecture, turning the final competition car into a rolling tribute rather than disguising it as another entry on the grid.
A customer-racing chapter closes
The car's completion also highlights how much work sits behind a factory-built racer. Porsche says the production process was spread across several locations before the finished GT4 RS Clubsport emerged from Zuffenhausen.
It closes a substantial chapter in the company's customer-racing programme. More than 1,500 Cayman-based GT4 racing cars have been produced since 2016, putting the model into the hands of teams and drivers well beyond Porsche's own works efforts.
There is more to come from the farewell. Porsche plans to release a documentary about the final car in autumn 2026, offering a closer look at its creation and last competitive appearance.
Nor is Porsche leaving this rung of its customer-racing ladder empty. The company says the 911 GT4 R will take over from the Cayman-based platform in 2027, shifting the programme from the familiar mid-engined layout to a 911-based successor.
For now, the last Zuffenhausen-built 982 racer has earned an unusually fitting retirement: one more long race, then a permanent place in the collection it was designed to celebrate.
