Omoda Jaecoo New Zealand has announced the addition of the J5 Hybrid to its local showrooms, where it will be sold alongside the existing J5 EV. The company says the new variant is positioned as an option for consumers who are not ready to transition to a fully electric vehicle.
Offered in a single Summit variant, the J5 Hybrid is priced at $39,990 plus on-road costs, and it is due to land in dealerships from August 1st.
While the exterior design is similar to the electric version, the hybrid model includes a waterfall front grille, similar to the larger J7, while keeping the 18-inch ‘Aero’ alloy wheels and LED daytime running lights.
The J5 Hybrid uses a series-parallel hybrid powertrain rather than a plug-in system and combines a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine, producing 105kW and 215Nm, with a 150kW/310Nm Permanent Magnet Synchronous electric motor.
The combined system delivers a total output of 165kW and 295Nm to the front wheels through a dedicated hybrid transmission, while fuel consumption for the vehicle is rated at 5.6l/100km on a combined cycle, with CO2 emissions of 126g/km.
Inside, the cabin features a 13.2-inch central infotainment screen and an 8.8-inch LCD instrument cluster, and standard technology includes intelligent voice command functionality, a 50W wireless charger, and wireless connectivity for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The interior is fitted with a fixed panoramic glass roof, acoustic glass in the front doors, and colour-selectable ambient lighting, while seating is upholstered in a "pet-friendly" synthetic leather made of a silicone-based material that is antibacterial and wear-resistant. Additionally, the front seats are heated and ventilated.
Safety features include seven airbags and a 360-degree panoramic view camera and the J5 Hybrid is equipped with a suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, including Adaptive Cruise Control, Autonomous Emergency Braking, Forward Collision Warning, and Emergency Lane Keeping.
Like other models in the Jaecoo range, the J5 Hybrid is covered by a seven-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty, while the high-voltage battery has a separate eight-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
