- CX-5 scores 93% for Vulnerable Road User Protection.
- ANCAP awards 5-star score overall for new Mazda.
- Launching in NZ in four variants this quarter.
The forthcoming (for New Zealand) third-generation Mazda CX-5 has logged the highest-ever score for Vulnerable Road User Protection under ANCAP's current crash/safety protocols (introduced in 2023), on its way to a 5-star overall safety rating.
“Arriving with a 5-star safety rating is a positive start for the CX-5 ahead of local launch next month”, says Mazda Motors of NZ managing director, David Hodge. “The CX-5 has long been chosen by those who value an engaging drive and unmatched practicality, but also uncompromising safety."
Scoring 93% for Vulnerable Road User Protection, strong performance was noted by ANCAP for the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system when tested for pedestrian, reverse-over, cyclist and motorcyclist collision mitigation. All were rated "Good", the top of ANCAP's five-tier ranking.
The CX-5 scored 91% for Child Occupant Protection, with dynamic tests and child seat installations achieving top points. Adult Occupant Protection was scored at 90% for all variants.
Standard safety equipment across the range includes Rear Automatic Emergency Braking, Rear Cross Traffic Braking, Forward Turn Across Traffic Braking, and Emergency Lane Keeping support in reducing the possibility of collisions.
Blind Spot Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, Mazda Radar Cruise Control with Speed Limit Assistance, and Cruising and Traffic Support all provide assistance on the road.
Mazda NZ has previously confirmed a spring launch for the new CX-5, which will be available in Touring, SP, Homura and Takami specifications.
