To celebrate a truly monumental three decades of "The Real Driving Simulator," Sony Interactive Entertainment has unveiled a Gran Turismo Limited Edition version of the PlayStation 5 DualSense controller. Yes, it really has been around that long...
While this stylish new peripheral is designed to honour the franchise’s history, its arrival coincides with the launch of the massive Spec IV (Part 1) update, providing players with both new physical hardware and a wealth of fresh digital content to explore.
Sony says the limited-edition controller is "crafted to embody the craftsmanship and engineering at the heart of the Gran Turismo series" and features racing stripes and motorsport-inspired graphics - including some awesome little bonnet latches on the touchpad - along with a textured, carbon-fibre-style front plate that "mimics high-performance vehicle materials".
Kazunori Yamauchi, CEO of Polyphony Digital, reflected on the milestone, stating that the design is a tribute to the shared journey with the racing community.
"Thirty years ago, Gran Turismo began with a vision to share the beauty and joy of the automobile," he said. "This commemorative controller celebrates the journey we have shared together, and I am deeply grateful to everyone whose passion continues to inspire us."
The controller will retail for NZ$149 and pre-orders are set to open on October 22 at 10:00am local time, with a global launch scheduled for December 10.
While the controller offers a new way to interact with the game, the Spec IV (Part 1) update, which is available now, significantly expands the gameplay experience. The headline addition is the legendary Sportsland Sugo circuit, a historic track that provides a perfect playground for testing the update's six new vehicle additions.
The new vehicles include:
- Xiaomi Vision Gran Turismo: A cutting-edge electric hypercar featuring an aerodynamic design aimed at balancing low drag and high downforce.
- Ferrari F355 Berlinetta ’94: The quintessential 1990s midship sports car that marries performance with sleek Pininfarina-styled aesthetics.
- Honda Civic Si Group A version ’87: A historic racing machine based on the Mugen Motul Civic, known for its success in the 1987 All-Japan Touring Car Championship.
- Mazda RX-Vision GT3 Evo ’26: An evolved, aggressive track machine equipped with a 4-rotor engine and advanced technology.
- Honda Step WGN Spada Premium Line ’23: A comfortable, high-end minivan perfect for enjoying the scenery in the game's photo modes.
- Citroën 2 CV 6 Charleston ’86: A beloved, classic French vehicle designed to bring a "slower, more deliberate sense of adventure" to any drive.
Beyond these vehicles and the new circuit, the Spec IV update also introduces new events, Car Viewer features, and an Experience mode to "deepen the connection between player and machine".
