Hyundai’s Ioniq V brings concept-car looks.

Hyundai’s Ioniq V brings concept-car looks.

  • Hyundai Ioniq V debuts as a production EV with over 600km CLTC range.
  • New model introduces Hyundai’s ‘Origin’ design language and 27-inch display.
  • Part of wider plan to launch 20 electrified models within five years.

Hyundai has pulled the wraps off the production Ioniq V at the Beijing Auto Show, fast-tracking the concept-to-showroom process and signalling a much bigger push into the world’s largest EV market.

The new electric sedan, developed specifically for China, arrives as the first dedicated Ioniq model tailored for local buyers, forming the opening move in a wider product offensive that will see 20 new electrified models launched over the next five years.

A new look, and a new direction

Visually, the Ioniq V doesn’t hold back. Its wedge-shaped nose, ultra-thin lighting and upright stance give it a mix of influences: part sleek EV sedan, part SUV, with more than a hint of supercar drama in the surfacing.

Hyundai says the car introduces its new ‘Origin’ design language for EVs in China, derived from the earlier Venus concept.

At 4900mm long and riding on a 2900mm wheelbase, the V sits squarely in the mid-size segment, offering generous interior space and a clear focus on rear-seat comfort.

Inside, Hyundai leans heavily into digital presentation.

A 27-inch ultra-thin 4K panoramic display dominates the dashboard, paired with a head-up display that projects key information into the driver’s line of sight.

The cabin is designed as a flexible, lounge-like space, supported by ambient lighting, an eight-speaker audio system with Dolby Atmos, and a wraparound interior layout aimed at comfort and usability.

There’s also a strong tech angle under the surface, including an LLM-based smart AI assistant powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, enabling voice-driven control of vehicle functions.

Built for China (and beyond?)

Hyundai is clear about the intent here: China is both proving ground and launchpad. The Ioniq V forms part of a broader strategy built around its “In China, For China, To Global” approach, with significant investment and local partnerships underpinning development.

The long-range version is claimed to deliver over 600km of driving range under China’s CLTC test cycle, with 800-volt charging architecture also confirmed.

What’s still unclear is whether the Ioniq V will make it beyond China. DRIVEN Car Guide understands Hyundai has not disclosed global market plans yet.

But given the scale of the push, and the speed at which this concept became reality, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see elements of the V’s design and tech filter into other markets soon.
