The hot hatch is back at Opel, only now it plugs in.

  • Opel Corsa GSE produces 207kW and 345Nm from its electric powertrain.
  • The electric hot hatch reaches 100km/h in a claimed 5.5 seconds.
  • Performance hardware includes a Torsen differential, sports chassis and Alcon brakes.

Opel is bringing the hot hatch back with a socket, revealing the new all-electric Corsa GSE ahead of its public debut at the Paris Motor Show in October.

The new model revives the spirit of past sporty Corsa variants, but swaps the old-school GSi formula for what Opel now calls Grand Sport Electric. It will go on sale this year as the most powerful production Corsa yet, and Opel says no current production model in its range accelerates faster.

Small car, big shove

The headline figure is 207kW and 345Nm, matching the electric punch of the Mokka GSE. In the smaller Corsa, that translates to 0 to 100km/h in a claimed 5.5 seconds and a 180km/h top speed. That is properly brisk for a compact front-drive hatch, and exactly the sort of number likely to wake up a few old hot-hatch loyalists.

Drivers get three modes. Sport unlocks the full output and uses a racetrack-optimised calibration, while Normal reduces power to 170kW but still allows the 180km/h top speed. Eco trims the car for efficiency and limits maximum speed to 150km/h.

Energy comes from a 54kWh lithium-ion battery, with 51kWh usable capacity. Opel says the battery temperature management system has been adapted for the Corsa GSE’s higher performance demands.

Proper hardware, not just stickers

This is not just a regular Corsa with yellow seatbelts and a gym membership. The GSE gets a Torsen multi-plate limited-slip differential, lowered sports chassis, specific axles, stabilisers and hydraulic shock absorbers.

Steering and pedal tuning have also been adjusted, while four-piston performance brakes handle stopping duties. The car rides on 18-inch wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, with Alcon brake calipers visible behind the three-spoke rims.

The Corsa GSE leans into its role visually, with sharper front and rear styling, black wheel-arch trim, a black roof and rear spoiler, plus GSE badging.

Inside, the throwback continues through black, grey and yellow chequered performance seats with Alcantara trim and integrated head restraints. Yellow seatbelts, aluminium pedals, an Alcantara-covered steering wheel and GSE-specific displays complete the look.

Those screens can show performance data, G-force readouts, acceleration figures and battery information. Practical touches remain too, including heated seats, a heated steering wheel, keyless entry, a 180-degree reversing camera and a bidirectional onboard charger capable of powering external devices.

Opel has not disclosed final homologated data yet, but on paper the Corsa GSE already looks like a convincing electric reboot of the small hot hatch.
