Neue Klasse tech meets old-school limo luxury in flagship reboot.

Neue Klasse tech meets old-school limo luxury in flagship reboot.

  • The updated BMW i7 offers up to 728km of claimed WLTP range.
  • The i7 M70 xDrive produces 500kW and reaches 100km/h in 3.8 seconds.
  • BMW’s new 7 Series introduces Panoramic iDrive and a standard passenger screen.

BMW has pulled the covers off its latest 7 Series, and it’s less a gentle update than a full-scale rethink. The seventh-generation limo debuts fresh tech from the brand’s Neue Klasse era, while doubling down on comfort, powertrain choice and, yes, a bit of theatre for those in the back seat.

Electric first, but not electric only

At the headline end, the all-electric i7 now stretches to a claimed 728km (WLTP), thanks to new cylindrical battery cells and a usable capacity of up to 112.5kWh.

There are three EV variants. The i7 50 xDrive kicks off with 335kW and a 0 to 100km/h time of 5.5 seconds, while the i7 60 xDrive lifts output to 400kW and cuts the sprint to 4.8 seconds. At the top sits the i7 M70 xDrive, delivering a hefty 500kW and up to 1100Nm in boost mode, enough for a 3.8-second dash to triple figures.

Charging has been sharpened too: up to 250kW DC means a 10 to 80% top-up in around 28 minutes, or roughly 235km of range added in just 10 minutes.

Prefer petrol or hybrid? BMW’s sticking with a broad mix. Six-cylinder mild-hybrids, plug-in hybrids with up to 450kW, and even a diesel (for some markets) remain part of the line-up.

Cinema on wheels (literally)

Inside, BMW has leaned hard into digital luxury. A new Panoramic iDrive system projects information across the base of the windscreen, backed by a 17.9-inch central display and, new for the brand, a dedicated passenger screen.

But the real talking point remains the rear-seat experience.

The optional 31.3-inch Theatre Screen now supports 8K streaming, gaming and video calls, paired with Bowers & Wilkins audio and Dolby Atmos. It’s less “back seat” and more private lounge.

BMW hasn’t ignored comfort either: Executive Lounge seating, massage functions and a four-zone climate system are all part of the package.

Big presence, bigger tech push

Visually, the 7 Series adopts a cleaner, more monolithic look, with slimmer lighting and an illuminated kidney grille. It’s bold without being as divisive as before, arguably a course correction.

Underneath, the platform is now built around a “software-defined vehicle” architecture, with significantly more computing power and over-the-air update capability baked in from the outset.

BMW says production begins in July 2026 following the reveal, with the 7 Series continuing to act as its rolling tech showcase.

And as Neue Klasse tech rolls out across the range, the message is pretty clear: the future flagship isn’t just about how it drives but also about how it thinks, streams and charges.
